A World Build: "The Incubator"

A World Build: "The Incubator"

Alain and I have been playing pen and paper role playing games for more than a decade now. Within those games we created many a world. Fantasy, Sci Fi and other weird stuff that defies simple categorisation. It is important to create a world with proper rules and content that could make sense.

Of course there were the butt worlds you could travel to by slipping into a huge butt. What was on the other side? More butts of course.

That can be fun for the better part of an afternoon, but it offers little immersion and is not very enjoyable in the long run.

I created a world called “Incubator” which basically worked like a soul-recharger. Members of a high tech race would die and with the help of technology their souls were transmitted into beings, that would nurture those souls back to life. Once those beings died, the souls were free and alive once more.

In order to control this process the so called Mediums had a built in kill switch. Quite literally. Their bodies were tapped into the natural energy flow around them in order to syphon energy for the parasitic soul. Once the soul was rejuvenated, the excess energy would form uncontrollable growths on their heads which would break the flimsy necks which were supposed to carry them.

Alright, I hope you´re still with me. This idea worked for a while, but an unforeseen connection between host and parasite enabled the brutes to grow in intellect very rapidly. With the simple invention of the neck brace a culture was able to form.

This was the base for the world build I endeavoured. I formed a flora and fauna around my premise and went on to think up an architecture, culture and faith.

Besides being a pain in my product designing girlfriends ass, who was incredibly helpful and understanding, it was great practice and a lot of fun. I am glad to be working on another world with Alain. Good stuff.
